The spirit of Santa Clause is crucial for any youngster’s Christmas, but this pestilent pastor opted to go “Grinch” when making some religious rounds at a Texas mall.

Alaska’s Last Frontier Evangelism-pastor David Grisham’s certainly no stranger to preaching his “good word” to people, as he’s a steady on the radical-religion circuit. However, this time, Grisham hit a new low when he engaged families in a Santa Clause line and told them, “Santa’s not real” and that parents need to be teaching Jesus instead of jolly elves.

Grisham ranted right at the children and shouted, “Kids, I want to tell you today that there is no such thing as Santa Claus. Santa Claus does not exist. The man you’re going to see today is just a man in a suit, dressed up like Santa, but Santa does not exist. Santa’s not real.”

His lecture leaped to the adults. “Parents, you all need to stop lying to your children and telling them that Santa Claus is real when in fact he’s not,” Grisham said. “Don’t lie to your children and tell them there’s such a thing as Santa when you know in reality that there are no flying reindeer, there is no workshop of the North Pole, there [are] no elves making toys—you buy all the gifts and put them under the tree. That’s all the truth.”

Is he forgetting kids get older and eventually learn the secret behind Santa Claus? (Hmmm.) While everyone has a right to their religious beliefs, it’s not exactly constitutional to infringe...upon others’ “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”—Chris Cringle being the component of Christmas happiness. And it wasn’t as if parents were deifying Father Christmas, telling their kids he’s God (or Jesus in this case).

Afterward, the mall’s management released a statement. “We want everyone at our shopping center to have an enjoyable experience,” the statement said. “All of the shoppers are expected to follow our code of conduct and will be asked to leave our premises if they don’t follow these rules.”

Just like The Grinch, maybe Grisham needs acceptance from a tiny town—somewhere in Texas (that seems to be his favorite spot to spoil people’s lives). This holiday, loosen up, laugh a little and don’t forget Santa’s simply the spirit of the season. We at RealClear wish everyone a happy holiday, and don’t forget to take home cookies and send us some leftovers!
