Beer Calendar: Beer Exploration Society Set, Multiple Tastings & More

     If you can cut loose, leave for Cleveland and its surrounding areas. They’re celebrating a myriad of suds events you’ll want to experience. Ohio’s a happenin’ place all through August!



Thursday, Jan. 19: The Rail rolls forward with their Beer Exploration Society starting at 6 p.m.—one of three, Thursday events—as it powers up with Platform Beer Co. ($12 including beer and appetizers). For reservations: 440-783-1275 | 17885 SouthPark Center, Strongsville

Thursday, Jan. 19: The Beer Exploration Society’s soaking up suds from Royal Docks Brewing Co.—two times: 6 and 7:30 p.m. It’s a total of $12 including beer & appetizers. For reservations: 330-497-7550 | 4347 Belden Village Mall, Canton

Thursday, Jan. 19: The Beer Exploration Society steams down at 7 p.m. They’re doing the Watershed Distillery—$12 including beer and appetizers. For reservations: 330-864-7245 | 3265 W. Market St., Fairlawn

Thursday, Jan. 19: Platform’s pairing up with Jukebox Cle for Third Thursdays to feature the brewery’s latest beers—5-8 p.m. Hang around for Happy Hour—on hold ’til 8 p.m. ($2 off all drafts). The Cle crew’s at 1404 W. 29th St., Cleveland. This month’s beers: Mango Infused Speed Merchant White IPA, Life Size American Stout, Cup Czech Pilsner and Paul Dry Hopped Cider.

Friday, Jan. 20: The hot, historic Metropolitan at the 9’s hosting a beer tasting—5:30-9 p.m. Kickers include craft beers and hors d’oeuvres—$25. 216-239-1200 | 2017 E 9th St., Cleveland

Saturday, Jan. 21: Heinen’s is hosting a Winter Brewfest—1-3 p.m. Throw down with 30, new releases and seasonal sauces—$20. 900 Euclid Ave., downtown Cleveland

Thursday, Jan. 26: The Rail’s back on track with their Beer Exploration Society at 7 p.m. with North High Brewing Co.—$12 including beer and appetizers. For reservations: 440-979-1979 | 400 Great Northern Mall, North Olmsted

Friday, Jan. 27: Rozi’s is offering eight beers (and 10-12 wines to try out) from Jackie O’s—6-8 p.m. Twenty-five dollars will be the fee, but you can beer it up with brewers from the Athens Brewery! Kick back with crafts including Dark Apparition, Paw Paw Wheat, Berliner Weiss, Mystic Mama, Firefly, Chomolungma and Hop Ryot. Roll out to Rozi’s (14900 Detroit Ave., Lakewood)!


Saturday, Feb. 4: It’s another hullabaloo at Heinen’s, as they host Big Game Beers & Munchies a mere day before the Super Bowl. Sample six “super” beers and a duet of dips & delectable treats. This wave’s from 1-3 p.m.—$15. 900 Euclid Ave., Cleveland

Friday, Feb. 10: Heinen’s is having a tasting of Rhinegeist beers—5:30-7 p.m. This sauce sampling includes a special draft allocated to the high-end grocer from the Cincinnati brewery itself. be quick to register (recommended), as this forum’s for a maximum of 30 people—$10. 402 Center St., Chardon

Friday, Feb. 17: Heinen’s harbors Zest Fest-Beer Tasting—5-8 p.m. Tango with 20 citrus-inspired suds along with a fandango of citrus fruits—$15. 900 Euclid Ave., Cleveland


Sunday, March 5: Follow Fat Head’s into the happening world of Hop Art—beer-inspired art classes (2-5 p.m.). The fee is $40. Get tickets here, and see the work here. 18741 Sheldon Road, Middleburgh Heights


Monday, April 10: In honor of the Indians’ home opener and season, which is on the rise, Brick and Barrel’s boasting a beer-and-baseball night—6 p.m. Cleveland historian/author Scott Longert, who has burgeoned many books on baseball Indians history, will speak, answer questions and offer autographs. It’s free admission—7:30 p.m. (before trivia). 1844 Columbus Road, Cleveland (Cleveland’s home opener is a show down with the Chicago White Sox and is on Tuesday, April 11th.)


Friday-Sunday, May 26-29: Memorial Day weekend marks the Grand Brewery Tour—$750. This will take tourists from Canton to Columbus and Cincinnati down to Asheville, North Carolina. It’s pricey but includes motor-coach travel, breakfasts, three nights at Four Points by Sheraton Asheville Downtown, two lunches, a t-shirt, two growlers, enjoying beer on the bus and guided tours. Saturday, Aug. 26: The Brewery Collectibles Club of America avails its annual “can-vention” in Cleveland. This event’s extra special if you’re a collector. Buy, sell and show breweriana—cans, signs, bottle caps, trays, openers, photos (any/all things beer-related). Saturday’s the public-invited event. Remember, this is a multi-day market show—Huntington Convention Center’s the spot (300 Lakeside Ave. E., Cleveland). Go here for a hint of what to expect.
