We won't call these Darwin Award candidates, but there have been some recent reminders that danger lurks in our everyday lives. So remember, when death knocks ... don't answer!

1. Tourist Almost Decapitated By Plane

No, dude. This fellow was looking to take a cool shot at a plane landing in St. Barts in the Caribbean. He got lucky when the landing gear barely touched his hand (close-up below). It could have taken his head off!

Lesson: Don't put yourself in harm's way for no reason!

2. The World's Most Dangerous Airport

Tourists who go to the smallest island getaways seem fascinated by low-flying aircraft. Also in the Caribbean, on the  island of Saint Martin, Maho Beach sits directly adjacent to Princess Juliana International Airport, one of the smallest international airports in the world. Experience the jet forces of a 747 Jumbo Jet taking off just 75 feet away from you, and the sight of an Airbus landing just a few feet above the beach. A compilation video is below.

3. Dad and Daughter Go Fishing -- So Does This Alligator!

An enormous alligator shocked a man and his daughter recently while they were fishing after it poked its powerful jaws out of the water near their kayak in Louisiana. Lesson: Be careful what you wish for when you're out to hook the Big One!

4. Camouflage Can Be Deadly

This kayaker almost got more than he bargained for. The shape of a kayak and the stabilizing fins can make you appear to be another fish (i.e., dinner) to a shark.

Lesson: When swimming with the fishes, always carry shark repellant! 

5. Shipwrecks Are More Common Than You Think

Great news report about the resourcefulness of some shipwrecked sailors who were recently rescued -- and how this kind of stuff happens constantly, even in modern times!

Lesson: When you go out on an adventure, make sure you have the proper training!

6. Historical Perspective

Bombings of European cities were common in World War II. This family in Liverpool, England, was fortunate that this German bomb was a dud.

Lesson: It's better to be lucky than good.
