How Much Does America REALLY Drink On Super Bowl Sunday?
It's been an oft-repeated statistic that Americans drink 325 million gallons of beer on Super Bowl Sunday. But here's a big problem with that: it's not even possible.
The Impossible Dream
The current population of the U.S. is right around 325 million people, which means that on a single calendar day every person in the entire country would have to drink a gallon of beer for the much-used figure to be correct.
Doing the Math
Since ratings for the Super Bowl show that the big game is watched by 110 million people or so, that means all the Super Bowl viewers would have to drink 3 gallons, or about 32 beers...each.
The Real Numbers?
In actuality, Americans consume about 50 million cases of beer on Super Bowl Sunday. That's about 112 million gallons of beer. Of the beer enjoyed on Super Bowl Sunday, 94 percent of it is Bud Light, Budweiser, Coors Light, Natural Light and Miller Lite.
